Glenda Mae York was born October 2, 1934 in Butler, Missouri to Glenn and Zola (Crook) York. Throughout her life, Glenda would spend many hours knitting, crocheting and quilling, giving gifts to family members as well as selling her creations.

When Glenda was young she loved Elvis Presley and bought all of his 45 rpm records and albums. When Glenda was young her Aunt Naomi would take her around Butler to all the places she needed to go. Naomi felt that Glenda was capable of driving and convinced Glenda that she could do it. With this courage she took her test, passed it and got her license. This would give Glenda a new freedom of which she took advantage!

Later, when Naomi had an apartment in the same complex as Glenda, they would often gather with Glenda’s cousin Karen Rose for lunch and play Skip-Bo and Dominoes for the rest of the afternoon. Glenda always enjoyed those afternoons.

Glenda, Karen and cousin Sheryl Fischer spent many hours at Al-Eta’s Fabric Store. She was known for her quilling ability and did so for poems Karen would write and would give as a gift, often at Aunt Cleta York’s request. Among her projects was the quilling for a large framed picture and poem Karen gave to the Rev. Michael Robbins which for many years hung in the Non-Pareil classroom of the First Christian Church in Butler. She was talented at whatever she tried whether it was knitting, quilling or crocheting. In 1959, Karen taught Glenda how to hook weave and she became very good at that also.

Glenda loved her trips to Wal-Mart, often several times per day. Her later years gave her an opportunity to grow closer to her cousin Heidi Tourtillott, who took her on many shopping trips and resulted in the many “lists” for Heidi of things Glenda needed; recently including a family size bag of puffy Cheetos and large jars of peanut butter.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her cousin and dear friend, Heidi Tourtillott (husband Dylann, and children Kylann and Katelynn) of Rich Hill, Missouri as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
