Obituary for Evelyn Stevener

Evelyn Stevener, 97 of Butler, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at her home in Butler. Funeral services will be held 5:00 pm Friday, June 21, 2019 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, prior to services Friday, also at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Messages of Condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Evelyn Arlean Stevener was born July 20th ,1921 in foster Missouri to William Ruben and Bessie May Yeokum Schooley. She was the 6th of 8 children.

She attended school in Foster for 10 years then Rich Hill for 2 years. She graduated from the Rich Hill High school with the class of 1939. Evelyn then attended Warrensburg State Teachers College. She taught in the rural schools of Bates County. Evelyn was the last surviving teacher to have taught at Papinville, Missouri.

She later worked for 27 years at the Security Bank of Rich Hill where she worked as a head teller, a book keeper, and a cashier when she retired. Evelyn Joined the Methodist church of Foster as teenager and later transferred to the United Methodist Church in Rich Hill. She sang in the choir at both churches, she often sang solos at funerals, weddings, and at Eastern Star meetings. She was a former member of the order of the Eastern Star chapter 132 of Rich Hill, serving as the worthy matron in 1974.

Evelyn enjoyed piecing quilts, she made each of her grandchildren a baby quilt.
Her favorite songs were One Day at a Time, Ivory Palaces, The Rose, and Sunrise.
Her favorite poems were Aba ben Adam and The Bridge Builder.

On February 8th, 1942 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Albert Walter Stoddard, Jr. at the Rich Hill United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, a son Albert Ronald Stoddard and daughter Joyce Ann Stoddard. Evelyn and Albert lived in Bates County all their married life except during World War II, they lived in Saint Louis, Missouri, Dyersburg Tennessee, and Amarillo, Texas. They were married 27 years before he proceeded her in death on April 7th ,1969.

On May 2nd, 1977 Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul John Stevener in Rich Hill, Missouri. They lived their entire married life in Rich Hill. Evelyn and Paul both loved to travel. They took many long trips by car, several by travel bus and airplane. In the spring they drove through the Ozarks to see the red bud and dog wood trees when they were in bloom. They would also return in the fall to see the colorful autumn leaves. They spent lots of time in Branson going to western shows, visiting Silver Dollar City, and returning at Christmas to see the Christmas shows and lights. They never missed the state fair in Sedalia, MO as long as they were able to go. They were married 27 years before he proceeded her in death on October 13th, 2004.

Evelyn was also proceeded in death by her parents, 4 brothers- James Reuben Schooley, John Harvey Schooley, Warren Calven Schooley and wife Ruth, Marion Lawrence Schooley. 2 Sisters Genevieve Rankin and husband Walter, Audrey Beshore Klinksick and husband Ward Beshore. 1 sister-in-law Louise Schooley. She was also proceeded by her first grandchild Ronald Aldrich Stoddard.

She is survived by 1 brother William (Bill) Schooley of New York, her son Ronald Stoddard and his wife Phyllis of Nevada and her Daughter Joyce Bice and her husband Barry of Butler.
She is survived by 7 Granddaughters Sonja Terry and her husband Ron. Sandy Bobbett and her husband Kevin of Nevada, MO, Ericka Glynn and her husband Seth of Nevada, MO, and Deseree’ Lundine and her husband Thad of Richards, MO; Shawna Johnson and her husband Bruce of Butler, MO; Stacia Hoss of Butler, MO; and Nicole Bise and her significant other Carlos Arzola of Overland Park, Kansas.

She also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren-
Dustin Terry and wife Jessica and their children Aiden, Ava; Tiffany Entrikin and her husband Brady and their children Kirsten, Kaleb, and Kameron; Cody Terry and wife Allison and their unborn child.
Ryan Bobbett and his wife Karliegh and their children Riley and Trevor; Megan Gash and her husband Derek; Hailee Lundine and Hunter Lundine. Kasey Murray and her husband Jesse and their children Austyne, Addyson, and Makenna; Kylee Reynolds and her husband Krystian and their child Oliver. Logan Hoss and his significant other Krista Jordan and their child Connor Hoss. Lee’A Hoss and her significant other Nathan Fox.
